Prepared Foods

There are many prepared foods in cans, jars, and dry packages that
make excellent foundations fo meals while on board. On many vessels
these provide the bulk of the diet because they avoid the need to
provision and prepare multiple ingredients (some of which would be
rarely used), as well as the complications and longer preparation and
cooking times that many require.

Prepared foods range from cooked meats and fish to soups and ready
to vegetables. Some can be served straight from the can with little or no
additional ingredients, whereas others are used as ingredients for
dishes requiring preparation.

Classic prepared foods provisioned on most vessels include:

*meats--corned beef, roast beef, ham, chicken, canned and dry
sausages
*fish--canned tuna, salmon, mackerel, sardines, shrimp, crab
*soups--canned and dry tomato, mushroom, chicken, vegetable
*stews and chili--beef, chili and beans,
Sauces and gravies--pasta sauce, pesto sauce, tomato, white and dark
gravy
*vegetables--canned peas, green beans, corn, spinach, asparagus,
tomatos
